I love working in theatre.
I really do. There’s nothing quite like meeting my new cast for the first time and reading through the play to find that it’s going to be wonderful.
Needless to say, the read-through last night went fantastically. The two leads have amazing rapport together, and the rest of the cast is also amazing. This show (“Superior Donuts”) is going to be poignant and funny, and I love that I get to be a part of it. There are a few interesting costume pieces that I need to find, like a Captain Kirk Star Trek uniform.
And the set, don’t even get me started on how gorgeous the set is going to be. Paul, our designer and builder, gave me the drawings last night, and I just can’t wait to see it completed.
Elsa, the director, told me yesterday during our meeting that I was glowing. And it’s probably true, because I am ridiculously happy to be back in the place that I love doing what I love to do.
Back Home in Monterey!
But just for two weeks. I’m back to stage manage “Superior Donuts”.
It’s nice to be back, but I am pooped from the long drive.
Time to sleep, read-through tomorrow!
Merry (Day After) Christmas!
I’m having a great time just hanging out and relaxing with my family.
The only downside? Way. Too. Much. Food.
Friday night- turkey
Saturday night- smoked ribs, enchiladas, and carnitas. (random, but so good!)
Last night- prime rib.
I’ve probably gained 5 pounds, but it was most definitely worth it!
Crazy Christmas
Today was our big family Christmas at Grandma’s, and it was it just as loud and insane as usual.
I wore this:
I bought this to wear last year, but then Christmas was cancelled (that’s a whole ‘mother story) so I saved it for this year. I literally bought this in the little girls section, and I swear I had the same dress when I was a little girl and it was just as uncomfortable as I remembered it!
Me, a social media manager?
I mean, really, who ever thought that would happen?
I certainly didn’t!
I’m now managing Magic Circle Theatre’s website and social media pages. I’ve learned more about WordPress in the past two days than I learned in the past year or so blogging on it! I really believe in this theatre and the work that they do, and I am so pleased to be able to be a part of it (even from way down here in San Diego)!
The site is all set up for next season now, go check Magic Circle Theatre out!
Wall Stickies from HELL!
Goal: to hang records on the wall in the living room.
Where this failed: I bought the stickies at the Dollar Tree. So, I keep getting attacked by records a they fall to their death from the wall.
Lesson learned: pay the extra buck seventy five to get good 3M stickies.
My dad is a dork…
He’s sitting on the couch, head rolled back, completely asleep, snoring.
Kates and I are sitting here trying to wake him up, and all he does is occasionally snore say “yeah” and then continue to sleep.
The question is: will he ever make it up the stairs to bed or will I come down tomorrow morning and find him in the same place?
Pet Peeve
I hate “text speak”.
For Pete’s sake, TYPE THE FREAKING WORD OUT.
Like the word “thanx” for example. It only takes one extra letter to actually spell out the real word.
Don’t even get me started on “U” or “UR”.
This is why our generation is illiterate (I may be exaggerating a little bit).
When my dad sends me a text message with “text speak” in it… Well, it’s weird. Very very weird.
Weekend Visit to Monterey
Me relaxing on Jillian’s balcony in Monterey.
Nathan and I drove up to Monterey this last weekend for a little visit! We had a blast seeing our friends up there, I had a very productive meeting at the theatre I work (note the tense of that word) for, and we saw the current play at the theatre (Neil Simon’s “Rumors”).
Our friend from San Diego, Jillian, just moved up to Monterey in October, so we stayed with her this weekend in her cute apartment.
I’ve had a bit of a hard time adjusting to moving away from Monterey. I really loved it there, I loved my friends and my job, so leaving was really difficult for me.
I’m happy to say that I will be returning there to stage manage a show, so I’ll be commuting back and forth for a few months. I am incredibly lucky that the theatre is so willing to work with me, and they are being incredibly accommodating. They found me a place to stay and they hired me an assistant so I can take two two week trips to San Diego during the process.
When this next show starts rehearsals it will be ending what will have been a six month hiatus for me, and I could not be happier. Only one more month until I’m back in the town I love doing what I love!
New Furniture!
It’s HUUUUUUUUUUGE!
Well, new to us.
We moved a truckload (literally) of furniture into our apartment last week.
This included: a massive entertainment center (seen above) that was built by Nathan’s grandpa (who recently passed away, the week before his 95th birthday), not one but two dressers for our bedroom, and also a bigger desk (so much bigger, in fact, that we had to completely rearrange the guest bedroom).
Everything looks great, even if a little empty still (mostly that applies to the entertainment center, the dresser are most definitely already full).
Now to get the apartment ready for TEN people to stay the night next weekend. We may not make it out alive, definitely won’t make it out unscathed!
